Getting a license is challenging but can be done.
To help you through the process we have put together a list of things that
people who need to apply for a license sometimes forget to do.
This is not an exhaustive list as some people may
have other specific families or circumstances, but it's worth considering
whether some of these issues might affect you.
Here are some things that may help you in your
journey to the driver's license.
The India government website has information about
how to get a license and what will happen after you've applied. There is also
information specific to where you live like registering your address, changing
your name, getting your photo, providing medical certificates or giving written
consent RTO Agent in Pune can help you with
these details.
Try to get this information sorted before you
actually go to the licensing agent so you don't have to make extra trips.
When do I need a license?
If you are 18 years old or over, the law says you
must have a driver's license when you want to drive on public roads. This includes
riding a moped or motorcycle. If you are 16 years old, you can ride a moped but
not a motorcycle.
When do I start learning?
If you're 18 or older, you can apply for your
learner license as soon as you want. You don't need to wait until the beginning
of a term or anything. If you're under 18, you can’t get your learner license.
Make sure you check this with the licensing agent though.
What do I need for my learner license in India?
For all driving licenses, you need to be able to
read a number plate 20 meters away. It would be best if you also were
physically and mentally fit to drive.
Although the physical part of this is obvious, many people have hearing problems that could affect their ability to drive safely. If in doubt about your fitness, get some medical advice before going for a license.
If you have a physical condition or disability,
they may ask you to provide a letter from your doctor. The licensing agent
might let you sit the test on a scooter so you can keep up with traffic if your
disability prevents you from going faster than 25 kilometers per hour.
